In starting to define EDPro Premium, I asked current readers to share their thoughts about EDPro Weblog, and how we could add value. Their comments helped me think through how to build EDPro Premium on the foundation of EDPro Weblog

In the course of this research, here are some of the comments I received about EDPro Weblog. Thank you to the readers who have taken the time to write such encouraging words:

  • "[EDPro] is very well done and presents different views of a given situation."
  • "It is an excellent source of what's going on currently in Economic Development globally in one place. The articles are diverse enough that I think anyone can find something useful in their work. I especially like the descriptives, thoughts and comments that accompany each website."
  • "It is a wonderful resource for EDPros. I would only suggest, if possible, filing various stories and links in an archive accessible by EDPros by category for use later by EDPros. Sometimes an issue comes up later and I really want to access previous stories."
  • "It is a must view for ED folks. I have shared it with many in the field."
  • "It is a great resource for current developments across the country and beyond. It keeps you informed and saves you time."
  • "It a great way to keep in touch about ED in the news."
  • "I would tell potential users that, if they are open to new ideas, and like a wide range of challenging concepts, this is an excellent site. I also like the idea that most ideas are presented on their own merits (or demerits) with little editorial comment (Maybe that is because I think like Ed). I also like the range of sources, because I find the ideas of the so-called experts to be often too full of themselves. I look forward to the page every week, and rarely have a week when there is not an idea that I want to pursue further."
  • "I wish I had more time to read and digest the material. But I seldom do but DO archive it and use info from time to time to put in news letters to my investors. Thanks for the needed service to the profession."
  • "I think it is an excellent "quick read" as I can scan the discussion subjects, then follow up on those of interest to me. We are all interested in the economy and incentives offered by our competitors. I've been in the business for some time and this is the best synopsis, I have seen."
  • "I sincerely like your information and appreciate all that you are doing!"
  • "I read dozens of articles on a typical day in the office. There are so many choices out there for current information on economic development. I always check EDPro weblog because it usually contains an article or two that I have not already read."
  • "I like the short overview of ED happenings all over the US and internationally. It's quick to read, yet covers many different ED-related topics. I don't read every link, but have found something useful in almost every issue. Please keep it up!"
  • "EDPro is our Bible."
  • "I forward it as the source of information for anyone new or any long time EDPros. Great information. Keep it up."
  • "I find the Weblog to be an asset as a one stop center for learning about cutting edge innovations in the world of economic development. There is a lot of stuff that can be accessed by the net, but you are not confident in its credibility. The EDPro weblog is a credible source."
  • "I find EDPro to be a great source to learn about issues outside of traditional manufacturing based ED."
  • "I enjoy the Kiplinger style and the option of seeking more details if I desire."
  • "I enjoy the focus on innovation-led, technology based economic development."
  • "I already share the link with others so that they can gain a national, sometimes international, perspective on ED."
  • "I think that your blog is one of the best information resources in the economic development profession. Please continue to keep up the good work!"
  • "The first blog I ever read, EDPro has been running since 2002. Every week or so, Ed Morrison not only points you to dozens of interesting news articles, but he also tells you what they mean. He understands the importance of workforce development, early childhood education, and entrepreneurship. Beyond rural and small town issues, Morrison also covers the full range of economic development, but you can also learn something from inner city and suburban challenges. Morrison taught an outstanding economic development workshop I attended, and I've subscribed to his email summary ever since."
  • "Great way to keep informed about trends and new thinking from an insightful EDPro."
  • "Great timely info for our field. Always on top of the current events, practices and thinking. Any ED Pro that's not reading this is not really an "ED Pro!""
  • "Great summary to browse through and stay abreast of what's going on."
  • "Great summary of important ED issues."
  • "Great source for concise news about ED. I like the format, although it's a little cumbersome sometimes to go through 2 web pages to get to the story. Sometimes it is a bit slow. Content is always good - and I like that I can scan it quickly for items of interest to me. I recommend this widely."
  • "Great information source!"
  • "Good way to stay current."
  • "Good source of wide variety of articles focused on economic development."
  • "Great job, keep it up."
  • "Good source of up to the minute E.D. news and commentary."
  • "Good information; great national article coverage without having to webcrawl to find them."
  • "For the economic developer, EDPro is a great source of up-to-date information highlighting initiatives, practices and trends impacting the businesses climate and ultimately our quality of life."
  • "Excellent way to keep up on the general activities going on in economic development. Articles can stimulate ideas. Focus tends to be on the tactical side of the equation."
  • "Excellent source of thought-provoking articles, papers, position statements, etc.
The 'difficult part' is NOT using up the whole week getting through the various cited links, etc.
Whether for general information, updates on policy, cutting edge movements, sales leads, or just 'getting smarter' ( I hope), this is the ED site I enjoy most. Better that most ED magazines."
  • "Excellent resource.Maybe a little too long. I would rather have shorter version more frequently. Great way to stay informed."
  • "Excellent compendium of what's happening in the world of ED.  Only suggested improvement ---- if there was some way to index articles or categorize them, both current and archived ---- that would be optimal. I'd pay for that."
  • "Honestly, and my friend [  ] at Old Dominion Electric Cooperative agrees as we have discussed this, EDPro is the most "behind the scenes" look at national economic development that we have encountered. You catch the material that others do not, and hence it's a great service. I use the articles as case studies - good and bad, consistently."
  • "You have a very informative and easy to navigate blog. I particularly like the depth of topics."
  • "EDPro is a great resource. My main problem is limited time, which prevents me from reading each article/link in depth! Therefore, my ability to benefit from add-ons is limited."
  • "Ed's blog is the first place I turn for ED-related news. His emphasis on the creation and value of open economic networks is of great importance to EDPro's in today's ever-changing and increasingly competitive economic landscape. Regions and their leaders should become more familiar with Ed's work and make use of the ideas and news that flow from the EDProWeblog"
  • "EDPro is a wonderful resource for the ED community. It is loaded with very useful information."
  • "EDPro weblog is a comprehensive resource for timely information about the dynamic and very competitive world of economic development."
  • "EDPro provides "local flavor" and opinions on many of the issues across the economic development landscape. The site present reports, news clippings, and other pertinent information that I have not found through my own best efforts to discover. EDPro delivers the news how I want it, in short punches I can scan through, adding value because of a pinch of commentary."
